Physical Education and Games

The school has excellent facilities for providing children with a wide range of experiences. Equal opportunity is given to all to participate in each planned activity. All children will be expected to take part in P.E. and Games unless there is any medical reason why they should not do so. All Y5 children will travel to Stocksbridge Baths for a period to take swimming lessons supervised by LEA appointed instructors. It is important that all children change their clothes for P.E. and during cold weather, when they have Games outside, warmer clothing is a must. For safety reasons, no jewellery can be worn.

The school has long held a tradition of offering a wide range of individual and team sports outside of the formal curriculum. Children (mainly from Y5/Y6) have competed with other Sheffield school children in:- netball, football, cricket, swimming, athletics, either in friendly fixtures or matches within the Sheffield Schools' Sports Federation Competitions.

Wide use is made by the school, of coaches and other sports specialists, including parents with coaching qualifications. We have used Sheffield Wednesday, Yorkshire Cricket Club, parents and the Rugby Union Youth Development. We have strong ties with Stocksbridge Park Steels Football Club, Stocksbridge Rugby Union Club, Stocksbridge Pentaqua Swimming Club and the Sheffield Sharks Basketball team. During recent years our teams have been successful as football league winners, netball league and cup winners, swimming relay champions and tag rugby tournament champions. It is hoped to continue this range of provision of sporting activities but is very much dependent upon available staff.
