The Arts

We encourage children to develop an enjoyment of all types of music as well as giving them the opportunity to develop their own talents. The school has adopted a scheme of work entitled 'Lively Music' which all children follow. Children listen, sing and play percussion instruments and some will have the chance to learn a tuned instrument. The latter requires children to volunteer to join guitar or recorder groups organised by school staff or to pay for tuition by peripatetic music teachers. We presently have tuition by visiting teachers for violin, clarinet and flute.
There is also a school choir. Music is used to develop movement and dance and is a starting point for drama. The school uses a number of opportunities for more formal drama performances by children (individually, group or as a class), and other drama activities take place in class.

In art and craft we look for opportunities to develop a child's natural talent. They are encouraged to look closely and to draw, paint, model or create in a wide variety of materials. They look at the work of other artists and are encouraged to experiment in a similar style and/or medium.
